DIY Sunday: Oat And Honey Face Scrub
This DIY Facial Scrub is Good Enough to Eat
Sometimes, simply cleansing the face isn’t enough. While it’s important to cleanse twice a day, using a scrub occasionally increases cell turnover and leaves the skin feeling soft and supple.
This facial scrub uses ground oats as an exfoliant, and includes a variety of beneficial and heavenly-smelling essential oils and ingredients. This combination results in ultra-smooth skin without stripping it of moisture. Here’s some benefits to expect from these ingredients:
Raw Honey
Honey has been used for quite a while to treat a variety of skin conditions. Its chemical makeup makes it effective in balancing facial bacteria and treating acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It’s also been shown to fade scars and assist in lightening dark spots, especially when paired with an exfoliator like the ground oats used in this recipe.
Sweet Almond Oil
Almond oil has been used for centuries, thanks to its healing and soothing properties. This oil is an anti-inflammatory, meaning it has the power to reduce puffiness, swelling, and even sun damage. Almond oil can be an effective treatment of acne, eczema, and psoriasis thanks to its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids.
Orange Oil
Extracted directly from the rind of an orange, this oil is a favorite for use in aromatherapy due to its mood-lifting and pleasant scent. This oil has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression in several studies. Furthermore, orange essential oil is anti-microbial, making it a potentially effective acne treatment.
Vanilla Oil
Native to South and Central America, the vanilla plant has been used for hundreds of years as a delicious addition to food and drinks. But more recently, this ingredient has been used as a sweet-smelling essential oil. As an oil, vanilla can promote relaxation and improve sleep quality, thanks to its comforting and warm aroma.
Ground Oats
Oats are a fantastic way to gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin without stripping it of natural oils and moisture. In fact, they even impart moisture to the skin and can soothe redness and inflammation. Oats are non-irritating and can be used by people of all skin types.
